97 Points - Wine Advocate
"Once again, I found the 2023 Maturin James Berry Vineyard to be the most complete and multifaceted wine in the Turtle Rock range. It's a blend of 34% Syrah, 31% Graciano, 19% Grenache and 16% Mataro that was all cofermented and matured in "Aphrodite" barrels from Tonnellerie Cavin. The bouquet is immediately captivating, a high-fidelity rendering of the telltale floral, lifted energy of the James Berry site, with bramble, underbrush, graphite and cured meat undertones, set against a backdrop of red and black fruits. The palate is sumptuous and seamless, with perfectly judged ripeness enlivened by mouthwatering acidity. It culminates in an extremely rich, long and swelling finish with pure, earth-driven flavors, detailed tannins and a gently refreshing core of citrus-laced minerality. There is no better example of Turtle Rock's ability to craft wines that strike the intersection of power, purity and nuance." -ML, 10/2/25

"The 2023 Maturin James Berry Vineyard bursts from the glass with a mentholated mix of crushed blackberries and sweet herbs, offset by hints of white pepper. It is silken in feel, nearly weighty yet energetic, with a polished core of ripe red and black fruits that slowly saturate the palate in primary concentration. The 2023 is dramatically long and complex, leaving a web of fine-grained tannins as nuances of Earl Grey linger on. This is nowhere near ready to reveal its charms, but there is so much going on under the hood." -EG, Apr/2026
