Product Overview
Winery's Notes:
"The Castello di Cacchiano is owned by Giovanni Ricasoli-Firidolfi, a descendent of the family who made history in the territory and in the appellation. For over a thousand years, the castle has been located in a dominant position, overlooking the hillsides of the eponymous area in the province of Siena, right in the heart of Chianti Classico’s wine producing region.
The insight that Tuscany and the Chianti Classico region could also be the perfect territory for excellent Merlots led us to introduce Fontemerlano, an inviting and fascinating expression of this grape variety. In Castello di Cacchiano’s unique terroir, this Merlot captures the essence of Chianti Classico.
Fontemerlano is an intense and deep ruby red color. The nose offers decisive intense notes of black and red fruit, especially plums, liqueur cherries, and blackberry preserves. The bouquet is completed by delicate elegant hints of spices, peppercorns, and aromatic herbs. Entry on the palate is rich and mouth filling with soft silky tannins and is accompanied by excellent freshness and light savory notes. The long finish is complemented by hints of toasted tobacco."
