Product Overview

Winemaker's Notes:
"The 2018 Mélange Rouge is a wine of intense perfumed aromatics that leap from the glass. Blackberry compote, dark chocolate, kirsch liqueur and toasted vanilla seamlessly integrate with a savory character of cured meats, black pepper and iodine. The wine is beautifully textured on the palate with ample round and supple tannins that are balanced by mouth-watering acidity."

Varietal Composition: 54% Syrah, 25% Grenache, 9% Graciano, 6% Petite Sirah, 6% Viognier
Appellation: California/Central Coast (mostly Santa Barbara)
Vineyards: Slide Hill Vineyard (Edna Valley AVA), Rancho Boa Vista Vineyard (Ballard Canyon AVA), Zaca Mesa Vineyard (Santa Ynez Valley AVA), Tommy Town Thoroughbred Vineyard (Happy Canyon AVA), Martian Ranch Vineyard (Alisos Canyon AVA), and Jack McGinley (Happy Canyon AVA)
Aging: 22 months in French oak barrels, 35% new
Production: 400 cases
Winemaker: Benjamin Holland

95+ Points - The Wine Independent (Lisa Perrott-Brown)
"Pale to medium garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Melange Rouge has a profound nose of red and black cherries, violets, and dark chocolate with underlying licorice, Sichuan pepper, smoked meats, and tar. The medium to full-bodied palate is lively and vibrant - pop-rocks in your mouth - with lots of texture interest combining plush and chewy, and bright and lifted fruit leading to a peppery finish. The blend is 54% Syrah (from Slide Hill and Rancho Boa Vista vineyards, to blend warmer and cooler climate Syrah), 25% Grenache (from Slide Hill and Zaca Mesa vineyards, again for the warm and cool climate), 9% Graciano (Martian Ranch), 6% Petite Sirah (Tommy Town Thoroughbreds - Happy Canyon), and 6% Viognier (Jack McGinley). The wine was fermented with 40% whole clusters, mainly on the Syrah, and spent 21 months in barrel, 35% new."

93 Points - Wine Enthusiast
"Savory charred meat and charcuterie aromas are dusted in pepper, sprinkled in soy and layered across roasted red plums on the nose of this bottling. It's a rugged wine on the palate in a pleasant manner, offering notes of roasted meat, rich berry and cumin." -MK, 10/1/21
