Product Overview
Importer's Notes:
"Jérôme Mathieu’s family roots go back to the 16th century in the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The wisdom of the ages is something he feels keenly and explains his staunch traditionalism. He works with 23 acres divided into 26 parcels across the appellation in various exposures, elevations and soils, and practically all of these parcels are old field blends (many with the full allotment of Châteauneuf’s 13 grape varieties), giving him a great deal of diversity to make a true, old-school Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
From vineyard parcels scattered throughout the appellation, nearly every one of which is an old field blend that is hand-harvested and fermented en masse. This is old-school Châteauneuf at its best. Toothsome fruit with a potpourri of Provençal herbs and spice."

"Coming in at 15.3% alcohol, the 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape spent 13 months in foudres. The result is a full-bodied, inviting red with a complex aromatic profile. Strawberry, spice box, thyme and minty shadings are all nicely delineated. Polished and harmonious, the highly enjoyable 2022 will drink well from early on. It’s a significant step up from the quality achieved in 2021." -NG, Jun/2024

"The 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape from Domaine de Saje is fresher than the 1600 cuvée, evoking aromas of dark cherries, lilac, violets and dark wild berries. Medium to full-bodied, round and enrobing, it's layered with structured tannins and a long, elegantly floral finish. This blend of 80% Grenache Noir, 7% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre and the rest of several authorized varieties is a classic." -YC, 9/26/24
