Winery's Notes
"Our history with Sauvignon Blanc dates back to our first plantings in 1982 and our inaugural vintage in 1986. Initially, Don Talley planted it to ensure varietal diversity because he wasn’t sure what would work best at our site. In 1983, he planted about 4 acres of Sauvignon Blanc because Chardonnay vines were in short supply, and he figured that Sauvignon Blanc would be a good substitute. After about 20 years, in 2007, Brian decided to plant a new section of Sauvignon Blanc in Oliver’s Vineyard. Oliver’s Vineyard has come to be recognized as a great cool climate site for Sauvignon Blanc.
This wine holds a special place in the heart of Rosemary Talley, who has it hand-delivered to her house by her son as soon as it’s released (or maybe a little before). Recently, Food & Wine magazine featured it in their article, “The Best 33 Sauvignon Blancs from Sancerre to New Zealand,” saying Talley Vineyards may be renowned for its excellent single- vineyard Chardonnays and Pinots, but this Sauvignon Blanc proves it’s a winner too."
