Product Overview
Importer's Notes
"The Guigal Côtes du Rhône Rouge offers tremendous warmth, spice and pleasure, but in a decidedly individual fashion. It is, unlike virtually every other Côtes du Rhône, based on Syrah, a Northern Rhône approach that lends greater aromatic intensity and structure, though is far more difficult and costly to produce in the Southern Rhône.
Deep and dark red. On the nose intensely aromatic, with black fruits and spices. The palate is full, round and sexy. Round and smooth tannins present through the full bodied, ample wine. Overall a complete wine, with a long finish, with elegance and finesse accompanying the abundance of fruit and well-balanced tannins."
Varietal Composition: 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre
Appellation: Côtes du Rhône AOC
Aging: 18 months in French oak barrels
90 Points - Wine Advocate
"Significantly impacted by its elevated Syrah content, Guigal's 2020 Cotes du Rhone boasts expressive aromas of blackberries and blueberries, backed by ample black cherries. It's full-bodied yet supple and fluid, easy to drink and enjoy, with enough black olive and earth notes to ground it and keep it from being a simple fruit bomb." -JC, 5/16/24

"Medium-bodied and smoky, with wild cherry and raspberry layered with powdered graphite and charred mesquite. Reveals red tea and savory herb details through the snappy finish. Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah. Drink now. 40,000 cases made, 10,000 cases imported." -KB, 12/15/23

"The 2020 Côtes-du-Rhône presents bright raspberry and strawberry nuances alongside pinches of dried herbs. Low levels of soft tannin and sufficient acidity neatly frame this inviting 2020 Côtes-du-Rhône, which I slightly prefer over the 2021. It ends with a juicy finale." -NG, Oct/2023
