Winery's Notes:
"Chardonnay is an excellent conductor of “terroir” and notoriously amplifies winemaking decisions. The key, for us, is to find balance in ripeness and fermenting temperatures to allow the wine to truly channel the vintage and site. After many years of experimenting with several cooperages to find the right barrels to translate the dark mineral depth and savory orchard character that the Draper cuttings (originally suitcased from Meursault in the early 1970s) are known to exude from this block, we settled on DAMY produced barrels with medium toasting that come from forests in the Vosges area of France.
The Chardonnay “Trois” from the Biodynamic farmed Johan Vineyards has been for many years now one of our two most distinct Chardonnay wines. The site continually creates a defined wine of intense dark mineral notes, savory aromatics, and with exponential ageing capacity. Layers of wet rock, concentrated pear, and an almost briny characteristic are the primary drivers of this Chardonnay. We are extremely proud of the two barrels we selected for the 2021 bottling and look forward to tasting this wine’s evolution for many years to come."

"The wine's aromas of orange-flavored olive oil cake take you straight to a Mediterranean villa. Additional aromas of white sage and fresh-shucked oyster shells get you to the beach. Lemon, butter and toasted filbert flavors go on and on. This is an exquisite Chardonnay with depth and playful acidity." -MA, 9/1/23
