Product Overview

Winery's Notes:
"Château Haut-Batailley marks the entrance into the vineyard of Pauillac with the iconic Tour l'Aspic (Aspic tower) that dominates the estate. The estate is a classified growth, included in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. The actual vineyard of Château Haut-Batailley was defined in 1942 when the estate was divided into two separate properties (Batailley and Haut-Batailley).

In 2017, a new and exciting chapter under the Cazes family of Châteaux Lynch-Bages and Ormes de Pez began. Haut-Batailley Verso, the second wine of the property, was launched by the Cazes family.

Verso reflects the elegance and finesse of the Haut-Batailley terroir with a glimmering dark ruby colour. The nose explodes with freshness and red fruit aromas. On the palate, delicate oaky notes from the barrels give the wine balance and enhance fine-grained tannins."

Varietal Composition: 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot
Appellation: Pauillac AOC
Aging: 8 months in one-year-old barrels

92 Points - Wine Enthusiast
"The wine revels in fruit. With a fine, stylish character, the second wine of this estate is juicy and full of black currant flavors. It will age well over the medium term, drink from 2025." -RV, 10/1/22

90 Points - Wine Spectator
"Sports a noticeable savory streak from the start, along with brisk cassis and damson plum notes and a subtle infusion of tobacco leaf. Shows a good twinge of iron through the finish. On the austere side but in proportion, this is for fans of the style. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Drink now through 2032." -JM, 3/31/22

89 Points - Vinous
"The 2019 Verso de Haut-Batailley is a step up from the previous two vintages with cleaner, more delineated fruit—blackberry, mulberry and a light graphite scent. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and fine depth but no heaviness, moving into secondary, savory notes toward the finish." -NM, Nov/2023
