Product Overview
Winery's Notes:
"This wine was created in 2001 in honour of Baron Pierre Le Roy de Boiseaumarié.
With a blend in which Grenache and Syrah have pride of place, its complexity, opulence and delicate spicy and ripe fruit aromas, the Cuvée du Baron veritably embodies the distinctiveness of our terroir.
Intense ruby red color with purple reflections. The very first nose is very mineral: ink, schist. Then with aeration, all the dark fruitiness develops: ripe blackcurrant, cherry jam, bay leaf and Espelette pepper. The palate is remarkably balanced, with great density but elegant. The sweetness softens the tannic sensations, the mineral tension tightens the wine to infuse it with beautiful energy. The tannins are voluminous but very silky. Very persistent. Notes of black fruits, olive, graphite and zan at the end."
Varietal Composition: 45% Grenache, 45% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre
Appellation: Chateauneuf du Pape AOC
Aging: 18-24 months in French oak casks
94 Points - Wine Spectator
"This blockbuster packs a lot of power and stuffing, with a generous outpouring of black raspberry ganache, dark cherry and licorice. Savory acidity and an herbal thread weaves through while chalky tannins and notes of toasty apple wood, cast iron and smoked meat echo on the finish. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2035. 8,000 cases made, 800 cases imported." -KB, 3/31/24

"Matured in traditional foudres for 18 months, the 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee du Baron is 45% each Grenache and Syrah, rounded out by 10% Mourvèdre, from primarily stony vineyard parcels. It's ripe and black-fruited, bursting with notes of plum and black cherries on the nose, while the palate is full-bodied and supple, with ample concentration and a long, silky finish." -JC, 9/29/23

"The 2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée du Baron matured for 18 months in foudre. It displays cooked red and black cherry, strawberry compote and plum liqueur aromas. Like in the red Tradition, the blend uses 45% Grenache, while in the Cuvée du Baron, Mourvèdre and Syrah are flipped at 10% and 45% respectively. The 2020 Cuvée du Baron is a full-bodied and concentrated red, enveloped in slightly unrefined tannins, concluding with a moderately long finish." -NG, Apr/2023
