Product Overview
The 2017 Avennia Arnaut Boushey Vineyard Syrah brings a fresh, lively version of the Boushey terroir. The nose features dark blueberry and plum, crushed violets, and hints of roasted meat, and smoky mineral notes. On the palate, the vintage really shows itself, with lifted blue fruit, floral and savory umami notes, featured on a medium weight frame that expands as the wine opens up. The palate is silky with those signature Boushey tannins, echoing with blueberry preserves, candied licorice, minerals, and seared bacon fat. This wine could still use a couple of years in the cellar, and then be consumed over the next 10-12 years. It looks to be a worthy addition to the Arnaut vertical.

"Good dark red-ruby. Black fruits, licorice and black pepper on the nose. Combines a mellow savory quality and compelling sweetness, with dark fruit flavors complicated by notes of charcuterie, saddle leather, black olive, flowers and spices. The wine's salinity and harmonious acidity give it shape and lift. The savory finish features very suave tannins and lingering notes of garrigue, flowers and spices. In comparison to the 2016 last year, this wine is fresher and spicier, and less brooding. (15% new oak; 15% stems added back; from 1994 and 1996 plantings)" -ST, Dec/2019

"Coming from one of the state's premier Syrah vineyards, this wine has aromas of tilled soil, raspberry, mineral, dried herb, cigar leaf and blue fruit that show sneaky complexity. Medium-bodied but still elegant blue fruit flavors coat the palate, with a long, snappy finish upping the interest. Give it time to open up." -SS, 12/31/19

"The 2017 Syrah Boushey Vineyard Arnaut is a success with a mineral nose and black-fruited core, sprinkled with notes of black pepper and purple flowers. Medium to full-bodied in the mouth, the wine is still tight but has phenomenal balance and a dustiness across the mid-palate, ending with a long-lingering finish with ease and finesse. Only 400 cases were produced." -AM, 12/30/19
