"Blended with 10% Syrah and 1% Viognier and fermented with 70% whole clusters, the 2022 Mourvèdre is the most turbocharged example of the variety imaginable. Tasted as a finished barrel sample before its August bottling, the nose is a colossus of dark fruits, with faint but perceivable touches of bramble and garrigue peering through. The palate is, unsurprisingly, absolutely gigantic, truly attaining the unctuosity of syrup or motor oil. As with the other red wines in the range, but to an even greater degree, the finish is laden with oak-derived richness and cake-like lavishness. This is undoubtedly impressive due to its sheer volume and density, but it's best enjoyed on the young side to capture its exponential richness." -ML, 8/1/24
