"Here's a new submission from Querceto di Castellina that is made exclusively from Merlot. Made only in the appropriate vintages, the 2019 Podalirio is named after a species of butterfly, and indeed the winged insect is featured on the front label. This wine reveals big concentration and dark flavors of pressed blackberry, plum, dried mint and tobacco. The wine ends with soft fruit weight and gentle tannins." -ML, 2/9/23

"A classic Old World nose starts with tar, leather and pencil shavings before cranberry and blackberry notes emerge. Mixed berries dominate the palate. Cherries, raspberries and more blackberries join with orange peel, savory black olives and thyme. Tannins are confident but relaxed, with punchy acid that lifts the fruit and results in length and depth." -DC, 4/1/23
