Product Overview
Importer's Notes:
"Twenty- to 30-year-old vines are planted to south-facing vineyards 80 meters above sea level in volcanic soil with white sand and chalk deposits. The fruit is handpicked and the skins are gently broken. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks. A first blending of lots takes place when the wine is placed in barrique; a second at the first racking. The wines are then bottled with minimum intervention.
Deep ruby red in color. Notes of mature fruit and notes of spice. Deep and well structured."

"The certified organic 2020 Sicilia Saia is all Nero d'Avola from one of the prettiest parts of rural Sicily in Noto. This red wine shows medium concentration with dark fruit, ripe cherry, black olive and sweet earthy tones. It is richly textured and ends with soft, sweet tannins. This is a great food wine with an ample 60,000 bottles on the market. It sees 20 days of skin contact during fermentation and is aged in a combination of tonneaux and second or third-year barrique." -ML, 5/11/23

"This medium- to full-bodied red is well-knit and balanced, with a light tang of balsamico acidity enlivening concentrated flavors of blackberry, roasted plum, violet, espresso and smoke. Reveals trim, sculpted tannins, which provide fine definition and firm the lightly chalky finish. Nero d'Avola. Drink now through 2034. 10,000 cases made." -AN, 2/29/24

"Darkly alluring, the 2020 Saia opens with a blend of red plums, sage, smoke and zests of tangerine. It’s soft and round, showing ripe red and blue fruits, sweet herbs and dark chocolate. Juicy acidity maintains an energetic feel as the 2020 finishes long and pleasantly tart. Sour citrus traces slowly fade. This incredibly pretty Nero d'Avola aims to please." -EG, Sep/2023
