Importer's Notes:
"Molino Real is a partnership between Telmo Rodriguez and Pablo Eguzkiza with local growers to recreate the “mountain wines” that made Málaga and Andalusia famous throughout the world. Moscatel bush vines are planted at over 500m elevation, with southeastern exposure on shallow slate soils with low water retention. The facings are steep, extreme, and as such all vineyard work is done manually. The grapes for the sweet wines are dried on cañas, reed, mats in the sun. The grapes undergo two different selections: one during the harvest, which is done by hand, and another after the drying, meaning that only the very best grapes are left to be pressed.
The result is rich, long-lived, sweet wines that honor the tradition and history of the “mountain wines” of Malaga."
95 Points - Wine Advocate
"The 2014 Molino Real, the sweet Moscatel from the Málaga mountains that wears the subtitle Mountain Wine on its label, is the second vintage of this wine that I tasted this issue. 2014 seems like a very good year, even if the wine feels very young and undeveloped and took some time in the glass to open up and show the classical notes of bay leaf and condensed milk that I often associate with this very particular wine. 2014 was an earlier harvest than 2013, and the wine feels more concentrated and seems to have a slower evolution. A slower evolution often brings more nuance and complexity, and I believe that I'd start drinking this 2014 in a couple of years. 6,200 half-liter bottles produced." -LG, 6/28/19
