Product Overview

Winery's Notes:
"Jack Mast was the third generation of his family to own and carefully tend the Mast Ranch; in his whole adult life, Jack spent only one night away from his beloved farmstead. Situated on the western side of the Yountville Appellation, the alluvial bench land of the Mayacamas Mountains imparts traits unique to this acclaimed terroir: gravelly soil interspersed with sand, loam, and clay; hillside irrigation, and cool bay winds that provide perfect temperate balance for Cabernet Sauvignon vines.

The dark magenta color introduces developing aromas of cherry preserves, sweet tobacco, boysenberry, juniper berry, and red licorice. The bold palate offers concentrated flavors of juicy blackberry, anise, vanilla, toasted hazelnuts, and tart red fruits that are complemented by a juicy mid-palate and a delightful finish. Pair with a filet mignon topped with a red wine reduction. Drink 2023 - 2032."

Varietal Composition: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Appellation: Yountville AVA
Aging: 23 months in French oak, 35% new
Production: 805 cases

94 Points - Vinous
"The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Mast Ranch is another highlight in this range. It shows more of a red-toned profile, with plenty of bright acids and drive. Sweet red cherry, red plum, spice, cedar and dried flowers build effortlessly. Here, too, I very much like the energy." -AG, Dec/2021

93 Points - Wine Spectator
"A dense, high-toast style, this delivers a brick house of black currant preserves and fig paste wrapped in espresso crema, black licorice, warm earth and dark tobacco notes. Broad and burly through the finish, with the fruit knitting slowly but steadily with the earth and toast aspects. For fans of the muscular style. Best from 2026 through 2038. 700 cases made." -JM, 8/31/24

92 Points - Wine Advocate
"From a vineyard in southwestern Yountville, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Mast Ranch seems a tad less ripe than the Flat Rock Ranch (the reported alcohol levels are identical), showing some slightly leafy notes atop a bed of cassis. It's medium to full-bodied, silky and concentrated, with a balanced, lingering finish that shows no sign of alcoholic warmth." -JC, 12/29/23
