Product Overview
Winery's Notes:
"Clos Rougeard was born in 1664 on the lands of Chacé, a village established not far from Saumur. Eight generations have succeeded one another at the head of the estate, the last of which is embodied by the Foucault brothers. Since the 1980s, Charly and Nady have adopted a unique philosophy to enhance the terroirs of Saumur and Saumur-Champigny: leave the wine alone so that it can express its own identity. No synthetic products are added to the vine, gentle vinifications are thought of as infusions and the minimalist approach is claimed.
This vintage comes from a plot of nearly 3 hectares, facing the estate. A gently sloping hillock that offers a rare terroir in the Saumur-Champigny appellation, combining clay and draining wind-blown sand. This terroir is particularly suitable for Cabernet Franc. Les Poyeux expresses itself in finesse and reveals notes that are sometimes floral, sometimes evoking small red fruits."
