Product Overview

"The 2018 Soutard-Cadet is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, and the wine has 15% alcohol. It was aged in 100% new oak barrels for about 18 months. Deep purple-black colored, it starts out a little broody with tar and damp earth scents soon giving way to a core of plum preserves, Christmas cake and blackberry pie, followed by hints of cedar chest, chargrill and sandalwood. The full-bodied palate packs in the black fruit preserves and savory layers and is supported by velvety tannins and a fantastic backbone of freshness, finishing on a lingering fragrant earth note. Give it another 2-3 years in bottle to really hit its stride and drink it over the following 15 years or more." -LPB, 4/22/21

"The 2018 Soutard-Cadet is every bit the powerhouse it was from barrel. Rich, inky and explosive, the 2018 hits the palate with masses of blackberry jam, bittersweet chocolate, cloves, leather and scorched earth. Readers should expect a dense, hugely extracted Saint-Émilion built on textural richness. Soutard-Cadet is an excellent wine. But it could be so much more than that." -AG, Mar/2021
90 Points - Wine Spectator
"This red offers up a lot of ripe, succulent, crushed plum and steeped blackberry fruit that rolls through with chocolate, tobacco and black licorice accents. Warm earth notes underscore the finish, adding depth and weight. Very solid, though for fans of the extracted style. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2029. 780 cases made, 300 cases imported." -JM, 2021
