The 2019 Zestos Garnacha Old Vines is produced from Garnacha vines that were planted as far back as 1950 in the high elevation vineyards of San Martin Valdeiglesias, which is northwest of Madrid. Today San Martin produces some of the most floral and mineral-driven Garnachas in all of Spain. Zestos shows the complexity of wine twice its price. In fact, many wines that cost three times the price of Zestos do not show the complexity of this humble yet complex wine. Zestos has such a pleasing aspect and texture and such fresh, succulent red and dark berry aromas and fruit. It's a perfect introduction to Spanish wine and pairs well with just about any type of food: pizza, panini sandwiches, pulled pork sliders, fajitas, cheese quesadillas, pastrami, and corned beef sandwiches.

"Vivid ruby-red. Aromas of ripe red and dark berries, spicecake and candied flowers are complemented by a smoky mineral nuance that builds in the glass. Sappy black raspberry and cherry flavors show good depth as well as energy. Silky and appealingly sweet, finishing with sharp focus and smooth tannins that fold into the wine’s juicy fruit. Raised in stainless steel and concrete tanks." -JR, Feb/2021

"I also tasted an unbottled sample of the 2019 Zestos Garnacha Old Vines that was ready for bottling in a couple of weeks. It shows a warmer vintage, with more ripeness and color; it's a more concentrated and powerful wine that is juicy and delicious, perhaps less aromatic than the 2018. They expect to produce around 50,000 bottles of this." -LG, 4/23/20
