The 2015 Villa Creek Slide Hill Vineyard Syrah is sourced from the oceanic and volcanic soils of the Edna Valley which produce a totally different flavor profile than the rocky limestone hills of west Paso Robles. In the glass it is a deep, true red. Grilled blackberries on the nose lead to a palate of cola, anise, and peppered meat. It is at once complex and decadent with an expansive palate. It's delicious now, but feel free to lay it down for a few years. The perfect pairing would involve game birds, blackberry reduction, and a wood fired grill.

"Bright violet. Expressive, spice-accented black and blue fruit liqueur, violet, licorice and mocha scents gain vivacity and pick up an olive tapenade nuance as the wine opens up. Densely packed but lively blackberry, boysenberry and floral pastille flavors deepen slowly with air and pick up a hint of bitter chocolate on the back half. Shows a suave blend of richness and energy and finishes with impressive, dark-fruit-driven persistence, a touch of vanilla and subtle tannic grip." -JR, Nov/2017
