Taken Wine Company was founded in 2009 when next generation winemakers, Carlo Trinchero and Josh Phelps realized their mutual dream to start their own wine label. Josh and Carlo grew up together in the winegrowing town of St. Helena.
The powerful 2017 Taken Red showcases aromatics of blueberry pie, dark briary fruit characters and huckleberry compote, leading to robust flavors of ripe red berries, blueberry, and plum with creamy, milk chocolate and integrated oak lingering on the palate. Hints of toasted espresso, graphite, and earth add complexity and balance. Drinks nicely now but will gracefully cellar for 5-10 years.

"Warm and velvety in feel, with a well-toasted frame that melds into the core of steeped currant, plum and blackberry flavors. A loamy tug through the finish keeps this grounded. Not shy on heft but pulls it off. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Petite Sirah. Best from 2020 through 2028. 17,300 cases made." -JM, 12/31/19

"Powerfully concentrated in brooding black fruit, cedar and oak, this blend of mostly Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon has strong bones and layered texture. The tannins are supple and supportive, allowing the fruit to speak volumes." -VB, 7/1/20
