Product Overview

The 2016 Nik Weis St. Urbans-Hof Riesling Wiltinger Alte Reben is a Kabinett Feinherb, which means it is a bit drier that a normal Kabinett, about 22 g/l residual sugar. "Alte Reben" means "old vines" in German and the wine in this bottle comes from a parcel planted in the 1930s. The almost salty minerality makes the Wiltinger ‘Alte Reben’ finish off-dry even though we left a line of natural residual sweetness, which makes this wine such a great food accompaniment.

Varietal Composition: 100 percent Riesling
Appellation: Mosel (Saar Valley), Germany

91 Points - Wine Advocate
"From the oldest and steepest part of the Schlangengraben where the vines are replanted vine per vine but never en block—done this way for more than 100 years—the 2016 Wiltinger Alte Reben offers a very clear, deep and highly refined slate aroma. Round, piquant and salty on the palate, this is a gorgeously lush, stimulating and crystalline Schlangengraben with a long, tickling finish. This is a lovely Saar Riesling. 10% alcohol. Tasted from AP 40 17 in March 2018." -SR, 4/27/18

90 Points - Wine Spectator
"A lovely example of an off-dry style, this sports floral, peach, apple and lemon flavors. Shows fine intensity and ends with spicy and mineral notes on a mouthwatering finish. Drink now through 2022. 2,500 cases made, 2,000 cases imported." -AZ, 2/28/18

90 Points - Wine Enthusiast
"Sprightly and fresh, this is a sweet-tart tangy Riesling that offers bold lemon and tangerine flavors against a backdrop of smoky earth and mineral tones. Zesty lime acidity and a hint of just-ripe peach linger on the finish. Delightful now but it should drink well through 2023." -ALCI, 6/1/18
