The 2016 Peregrine Pinot Noir is sourced from 3 sub-regions of Central Otago in southern New Zealand and is made in a style that combines purity and elegance with texture, concentration, and length. Dark floral and spice scents lead to wonderful red and dark fruits, with a lovely seam of minerality supported by supple tannins. It's an ideal companion to roast pork with herbs and fennel, duck, venison, or a rack of lamb served pink.

"This wine starts off a little barnyardy, which is unusual for this producer. It blows off a little, but a leathery, earthy quality remains, along with slightly flashy oak. There's plenty of plump red-currant and blueberry fruit, though, along with violets and a peppery spice. The palate is supple and juicy with a soft grip of savory tannins and a tangy, exotic spiced finish. Drink now through 2027." -CP, 7/1/19
