"The 2008 Chortais is a 55/45 blend of Mavrodaphne and Korinthiaki, aged for over seven years in used French oak. The fermentation is stopped by freezing. It comes in at 15% alcohol and 128 grams of sugar. The most recent release of the mini-vertical (the price merely references the original release price for a 500-milliliter bottle), this is also the easiest to drink in many ways. It seems fresher, brighter and less intense—granting that there is still a fair share of power here. While it certainly can age, it seems less in need of age than the 2004 was.
Nicely balanced, this seems today not quite as rich as the 2006 or as powerful as the 2004, but the whole works out well—and perhaps better, depending on what you are looking for. Needless to say, these are all relative descriptors—this has plenty of power and plenty of flavor. This may be the most understated of the trio, but its current and positive evolution makes me wonder if this is the tortoise catching up to the hare.
