Product Overview

The 2016 Hill Family The Barrel Blend offers loads of kirsch and blackberry fruits as well as complex spice and tobacco characteristics. It's forward, charming, and straight-up delicious, and ideal for drinking over the coming 8-10 years. This dense and powerful wine draws its inspiration and namesake from the big waves that are so famously surfed along the California coast. The Barrel Blend is put together with the help of Kyle Knox, a great surfer and a wine professional, who loves the idea of "being in the barrel" as both a wine term, and a surfing term.

89 Points - Wine Advocate
"The 2016 Proprietary Red Barrel Blend is composed of 70% Merlot, 13% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple colored, it gives up exuberant notes of warm red and black currants and baked plums with touches of tilled soil, dried Provence herbs and black olives. Medium to full-bodied with a chewy frame, it delivers mouth-filling fruit and an earthy finish. 6,000 cases produced." -LPB, 2/28/19

89 Points - Vinous
"Hill Family's 2016 Merlot-based Barrel Blend is big, juicy and full of up-front appeal. I would prefer to drink it on the early side in order to get the most out of the wine's succulence and vibrant, racy fruit." -AG, Dec/2018
