The 2016 Ehlers Estate Portrait is a special blend of the Bordeaux varietals planted in the Estate's vineyards that date back to the late 1800s. Concentrated aromas of ripe, red fruit, raspberries, cherries, cassis, and smoke lead to a long and balanced mouthfeel that is dense and vibrant with complex flavors of red berries, smoky spices, and dried herbs, but with silky tannins. It's ready to drink now, but the balanced acidity promises a wine that will age extremely well for more than a decade.
Varietal Composition: 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Cabernet Franc, 28% Merlot
Appellation: St. Helena AVA, Napa Valley
Aging: 22 months in French oak, 40% new
Winemaker: Laura Diaz Munoz

"Fresh, with a light savory streak amid the red currant and damson plum fruit, giving this a racy, focused profile. Shows a floral nuance in the background and a bright mineral edge on the finish. Relies on precision rather than bombast. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Best from 2020 through 2030. 1,500 cases made." -JM, 10/31/19
