Product Overview

The 2016 Dominus Napanook is a blend of Bordeaux varietals specifically selected from the estate vineyard for their lively fruit and bold character. It offers a bouquet of lavender, cedar, ripe plum and savory earthiness supported by a structure of bright and lively tannins. Napanook wines are youthful and exuberant, meant to be enjoyed regularly when a more casual wine is called for.

Varietal Composition: 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot, 7% Cabernet Franc
Appellation: Napa Valley AVA
Aging: 16-18 months in oak barrels, 20% new, then bottle aged 8 months in bottle prior to release

93 Points - Wine Advocate
"Very deep purple-black in color, the 2016 Napanook Proprietary Red Wine is composed of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot and 7% Cabernet Franc aged in 20% new oak. A beautiful perfume of violets, aniseed, truffles and lavender is just starting to emerge over a core of warm cassis, blackberry preserves and ripe plum plus hints of cedar chest, chocolate box, rare beef and cardamom. The palate is medium to full-bodied and firmly textured with very ripe tannins, gradually revealing layers of black and blue fruits plus loads of earthy sparks, finishing with amazing freshness and depth. 3,500 cases produced." -LPB, 10/29/18

92 Points - Vinous
"The 2016 Napanook will give readers tons of pleasure pretty much upon release. Open-knit and deep, with terrific fruit purity, the 2016 is impeccably balanced from start to finish. In this vintage, Napanook is distinctly medium in body, which adds to its immediacy and sheer appeal. Expressive aromatic top notes and silky tannins round things out nicely. I would prefer to drink the 2016 over the next decade or so." -AG, Dec/2018

90 Points - Wine Spectator
"Rustic at first, with pepper, game and savory notes peeking through the core of steeped blackberry and cassis flavors. The fruit slowly unwinds to take the upper hand, with cassis and plum preserve elements winning out in the end. Reveals a tug of humus at the very end. Relatively approachable in style, but there's no rush. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2020 through 2028. 3,500 cases made." -JM, 10/31/19
