The 2016 Domaine Denis Mortet Bourgogne Rouge Cuvee de Noble Souche is produced from parcels located in Daix, the Mortet family’s native town, north-west of Dijon. The vines are some 400 metres in altitude, and the parent rock is just under the surface of the soil which is brown and very chalky. The high altitude of the parcels used to make this blend explains why the ripening of these grapes is always slower than for the other climates of the estate. Tasty fruit flavors are the dominating characteristic of this fresh and easy to drink Burgundy.
(87-88) Points - Vinous "(70% of this fruit was lost to frost; 20% new oak): Bright medium red. Slightly reduced red fruits on the nose. Very rich, ripe and sweet, with a dark cherry flavor complicated by a gamey nuance. A bit tannic for Bourgogne Noir but appears to have the material to support its backbone. These vines are planted on the plain of Dijon in the village of Daix, at a high altitude of 400 meters." -ST, Jan/2018
