Product Overview

The 2016 Anima Negra ÀN/2 is a perfect introduction to the wines of Mallorca. It has complex aromas of savory spices, wild raspberries, dark cherry fruit, and a hint of violets and smokiness. On the palate, the wine is silky and elegant with intense flavors of mature fruit. Well-balanced with a long finish, this wine pairs excellently with pork chops, rabbit ravioli, or roasted leg of duck.

Varietal Composition: 65 Callet, 20 Mantonegre-Fogoneu, 15 Syrah
Appellation: VdlT Mallorca, Spain
Aging: 13 months in French and American oak (35% new), then aged an additional 6 months in bottle before release

92 Points - Wine Spectator
"This aromatic red is perfumed with floral, woodsy and spicy notes, which follow through on the tender palate. A gentle texture offers cherry, licorice and herbal flavors, supported by light tannins and fresh acidity. Alluring and graceful. Callet, Mantonegro, Fogoneu and Syrah. Drink now through 2022. 17,000 cases made, 830 cases imported." -TM, 11/15/18

91 Points - Wine Advocate
"The 2016 AN/2 is from a more structured and more powerful year than 2017, so they used a higher percentage of new barrels (which I already tend to find too much for my taste), and the wine has abundant charred notes of toasted bread, smoke and spices intermixed with the berry fruit and Mediterranean herbs. There is a luxurious, creamy character in these wines, possibly from the élevage in small barrels, a significant proportion of which are new. This gives the wines a modern and international style, where I find the character of the local Mediterranean grapes gets somehow lost. It has a commercial profile that will please fans of oaky reds, in a slightly fresher style than 2017. This was an average year in production, with some 270,000 bottles." -LG, 4/30/19
